  Letter writing question

  so the jw's are no longer goind d2d but instead are writing letters- my question is what return address are they putting on the letters?

  their own or the kh?

  the kh's in our area have no mailbox and therefore no mail can be delivered or returned to a kh.. thanks in advance!.

  Official instructions say:

  On the outside of the envelope, always provide a return address​—preferably your own postal address. If you feel that it would be unwise to give your own address when witnessing by letter to strangers, ask the elders if they would approve of your using the return address of the local Kingdom Hall. The Watch Tower Society’s address should never be used for this purpose, as this would improperly indicate that your correspondence was sent from the Society’s offices and would cause confusion. If no return address is provided and literature is included, this too may give the wrong impression that the Society is the sender.

  i went to have a look at the jw.

  org website recently and i was asked if i would agree to accept cookies.

  i don't remember being asked that in the past.

  good day former jdubs, i'm a new member, particularly looking for it experts whome can verify if the jw apps track its members and record audio, particularly the khonf app.

  if you download app on google play store and click the headphones, a pop up requiring user to click pop up to enable audio recording is displayed.

  i'm minorly aware of the evolution of tech and tracking scandals.

  Btw the audio recording privileges the app asks for are because it's possible to comment during a meeting with KHconf.

  Hardly anything suspicious for an app designed for.....listening to and commenting during JW meetings...

  The icon next to it (microphone) is used to comment. When you toggle this icon on, the ring turns blue, and your voice is heard across the conference bridge (assuming you used the comment PIN to connect). Tap the microphone again to mute yourself and turn the microphone back off.

  What is the young person aiming to do please?

  Deconstruct the KHconf app back to (somewhat) readable code, to see what (hidden?) features and capabilities that app has.

  It's a bit like trying to anaylyze and 'unbake' apple pie to try and find out the recipe and ingredients.

  i will try to post a link.. jtg.. australia.. institutions refusing to join the national redress scheme are "doubling down" on the crime of child sexual abuse, prime minister scott morrison says.. mr morrison and social services minister anne ruston have warned institutions they may lose funding and tax concessions if they fail to sign up by tuesday's deadline and will be named and shamed.. "all institutions are doing in not joining is doubling down on the crime and doubling down on the hurt," they said in a letter to 25 institutions.. "we consider it to be reprehensible that you have failed to sign up to the scheme.".

  the jehovah's witnesses is among the organisations that has refused to sign up, arguing it does not have the institutional settings of other faith-based institutions that the redress scheme is designed to cover.. senator ruston is set to name the non-participating institutions on wednesday, when she will announce what action the federal government will take against them.. "we urge you to join the scheme not because of concerns about being identified, but because it is the right thing to do," the minister and mr morrison said.. "it is the right thing to do by survivors and their families and it is what every, decent, honest, australian demands.".

  Not everyone who claims to be a victim will automatically be paid under the Redress Scheme.

  An Independent Decision Maker will consider your application. They are highly experienced people from a range of backgrounds
  The Independent Decision Maker is the person that decides if a person can access redress under the Scheme, and if so, what redress the institution(s) needs to make. To do this, the Independent Decision Maker considers all the information provided in your application and by the institution(s). If they determine that the events are likely to have happened, then an offer of redress will be made.

  Now I guess Watchtower doesn't want any filthy wordly person decide om their behalf they should apologize and or cough up money.

  The redress scheme looks fair enough. After all, each application if reviewed individually.

  It could very well be that the Decision Maker decides in most cases that JW don't need to pay as the abuse didn't happen in their church building or while the victim was in their custody (as per JWs claims).

  But the core issue is that Watchtower wants to control everything themselves. They don't tolerate interference from outsiders. That becomes clear everytime one government or another wants to poke their nose into Watchtower business, whether it's CSA related or not.

  Also you can simply block/remove cookies for a website if you don't like the idea of having them.

  Most (public) websites continue working just fine without them.

  And does it make you wonder what they are actually installing on your device to track you?

  Not much. Cookies aren't magical spying devices that can track your every move by themselves, or find out your true identity.

  They can only be read and written by the site that placed them.

  They have no capability beyond having some information written in them by a website, and hat information can later be read by the same website. There's nothing to 'install'.

  In this case, jworg uses it to store login information for the secure part of the site. They could also use it to store some information about which articles you read and what search entries you made, so this information can be used to adapt what you see on your next visit.

  They also (probably) use it to track individual (yet anonymous and unnamed) users/computers to analyze their visitors' behavior on the website (how often do you visit, how long do you stay, etc).

  Their policy also mentions 3rd party cookies but these can hardly be used to let jworg know what other sites you've been visiting (it's technically not entirely impossible, but extremely unlikely as it would probably be very costly and I think even illegal)

  I think the picture on the bottom right of the Zoom meeting instruction poster is very fitting. 'The Big Brother elder is watching you and you must obey him and submit to his authority.'

  Side node: I feel the new way of distributing the letters is....different. :-P Receiving all letters in my mailbox is awesome! But it also makes me a bit lazy wrt saying thanks or commenting on the letters. And the topic in which the letters are announced have many pages of requests to have the letters PMed, which makes it near impossible to discuss the actual contents of the letters. Anyway the most important things are that these letters are distributed, so thanks again!
